In 2005, the Reidsville Senior Center was named

a Center of Excellence. The Center was recertified in 2008.

Senior Center location temporarily closed

The City of Reidsville has a strong senior citizens' program for adults aged 55 and older through the Senior Center. The Center is located in the basement of the Parks & Recreation Department with its entranceway on the North Washington Street side of the building.

Senior Center Coordinator Cindy Baynes provides seniors with many opportunities to socialize or to learn through a variety of activities, ranging from shopping trips to informational seminars. Through its services and activities, the Senior Center emphasizes the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle by providing an assortment of recreational, educational and social activities.

Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone 55 years of age or older may participate.

Types of Programs

Leisure Activities: Trips, bingo, table games, educational films.

Arts & Crafts Classes: Rockingham Community College sponsors several of the classes held at the Senior Center including knitting, cross stitch, crocheting, quilting, floral design, oil painting, and more. Computer classes are also offered.

Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program: Volunteer counselors are available to help seniors with insurance and Medicare questions.

A Paralegal is available by appointment

Health Screening: Blood pressure checks available every first and third Thursday of each month. A health fair is sponsored annually.

Physical Fitness: Bowling, shuffleboard, TOPS, exercise classes, horseshoes, Walk for Life Program, etc. Center participants are very active in the Rockingham County Senior Games.

Nutrition Site: The site is operated by the Rockingham County Council on Aging. Call 336-349-9757 for more information.

Silver Savers Passport: Senior Citizens' discount and identification card. Available to anyone 60 years of age or older.

Transportation: Transportation services are available through the Rockingham County Council on Aging. Call 336-349-2343 for more information.

Downtown Senior Citizens Club Headquarters: Meetings held every first and third Thursday of each month.

There is no cost other than voluntary donations for most of the services. Senior Center trips do require payment by participants. Classes sponsored by Rockingham Community College are offered free of charge to persons over 65 years of age. Call 336-349-1088 for more information.
