PART-TIME/FULL-TIME POLICE TELECOMMUNICATOR

REIDSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND SKILLS:  This position performs responsible telecommunications, dispatching, and related work for the Police Department and City.  Will monitor the City’s public observation camera system and building camera system.  This position will also serve as support services for the full-time police telecommunicators during peak hours and/or shift changes.  Backup duties will include, dispatching, and related work for the Police Department and the City.  The position will receive routine and emergency (911) calls and calls for service concerning crimes, fires, or general information concerning addresses and other community problems.  This individual operates the communications equipment to maintain contact with police personnel and other law enforcement units; dispatches officers to answer requests for assistance; receives and transmits information and messages.  The individual operates Division of Criminal Information (DCI) terminal to send and receive messages regarding criminal histories, vehicle identification, to report crimes, and related work.  Individual maintains an in-house computer database and communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken and the times involved; and generates reports for recovered or stolen property, missing persons, residence checks.  Individual will also be responsible for obtaining DCI records and other case records to be utilized by police officers in court proceedings.  Individual must be able to prioritize calls for service by severity and determine the appropriate response unit.  Must have considerable knowledge of the operation of police communications system and related Federal Communication Commission regulations.  Individual must have considerable knowledge of the geographic layout of the City, and the location of streets, important buildings, and other landmarks.  Special emphasis is put on ones ability to assess people and situations, to apply sound judgment, make good decisions, to remain calm under stressful conditions and to elicit sufficient and essential information for dispatching and assisting field personnel. Ability to speak clearly and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

 

PAY RATE (PART-TIME)      $12.00/HR.

PAY RATE (FULL-TIME)      $12.51/HR.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school and some related communications, dispatching or reception work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pre-employment drug screening, medical and psychological evaluation required.
  • Applicant must submit to thorough background investigation 
  • Applicant must provide a current credit report.
