The Reidsville City Council appoints interested citizens to serve on nine standing Boards and Commissions. All vacancies are advertised in the local newspaper. Application forms can be secured online or by calling 349-1030 or stopping by the City Clerk's office at City Hall, 230 West Morehead Street. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the last working day of the month prior to the month the vacancy will be considered by City Council. All applicants must receive the endorsement signature of a Council member or a member of the Board or Commission to which he or she is applying. If you get your form online, please print it out, sign the application and either mail it back in to the City Clerk, 230 W. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC 27320, or drop it by City Hall.
   
  ABC BOARD
 

Number of Members: 3
Term of Office:  3 years
Time of Meeting: 4th Wednesday every other month starting with January, 7:30 a.m.
Duties: Responsible for the operation of the Reidsville ABC Store
Qualifications: Must reside within the corporate limits; bondable.

  APPEARANCE COMMISSION
 

Number of Members: 8
Term of Office: 3 years
Time of Meeting: 4th Thursday, 4:30 p.m.
Duties: Responsibilities related to beautification and the appearance of the City, specifically to make a careful study of the visual problems and needs of the City and the area comprising the extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction of the City and to make plans and carry out all programs that will enhance and improve the visual quality and aesthetic characteristics of the City and surrounding area.
Qualifications: Be a resident of the City or live within a 15-mile radius of City Hall and live within Rockingham County.

  FIREMEN'S RELIEF BOARD
 

Number of Members: 5 (two appointed by Council, two appointed by Fire Department and one appointed by Insurance Commissioner)
Term of Office: Two years
Time of Meeting: Quarterly
Duties: Administer the investment of the annual Firemen's Relief Fund and handle the distribution in emergency situations.
Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of current investment procedures.

  HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
 

Number of Members: 9
Term of Office: Two years
Time of Meeting: 3rd Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
Duties: Safeguard the heritage of the City by preserving any property therein that embodies important elements of its cultural, social, economic, political or architectural history and to promote the use and conservation of such property for education, pleasure and enrichment of the State of North Carolina.
Qualifications: Reside within corporate limits of the City of Reidsville.
Current Vacancies: One with additional position coming open in April

  HOUSING AUTHORITY
 

Number of Members: 5
Term of Office: 5 years
Time of Meeting: 2nd Thursday, 12 Noon
Duties:    To perform as the governing body of the Housing Authority, adopting all policies and procedures for the administration of the Housing Authority and provide general supervision to insure that these policies and procedures and the regulations related to the Low-Income and Section 8 Housing Programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban are followed.

Current Vacancies: None but position is opening in April

  PLANNING BOARD/
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
 

Number of Members:  7 total, including one ETJ position
Term of Office: 5 years
Time of Meeting: 3rd Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Duties:    Advisory board to City Council which makes recommendations concerning proposed zoning amendments and establishes procedures and standards for the development and subdivision of land within the territorial jurisdiction of Reidsville. The Board of Adjustment considers variance requests and appeals from the Zoning Ordinance.

Current Vacancies: One (Which is an ETJ position)

  PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION
 

Number of Members: 7
Term of Office:  4 appointed for four years, two for three years and one for two years
Time of Meeting: Varies
Duties:    Advisory Commission which makes recommendations to City Council and Parks and Recreation Director concerning recreational planning, promotion and development for the City.

  REIDSVILLE COMMUNITY POOL ASSOCIATION (RCPA)
 

Number of Members: 9 (3 appointed by City, 3 appointed by YMCA and 3 at large)  
Term of Office: Three years
Time of Meeting: Bi-monthly basis at 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday at the YMCA or as needed
Duties:  Administering Board of Directors for the pool and overseeing adoption of the budget.

  HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
 

Number of Members: 11
Term Of Office: Three-year terms
Time of Meeting: 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.,
City Hall
Duties:To serve as an advisory body to the whole community of Reidsville on matters of broad community concern, including research and education rather than investigation. The Commission will not serve as a grievance board.

Applications are available in the Office of the City Clerk, 230 W. Morehead Street, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online.
