The Reidsville National team started off with a bang in first-round Dixie Youth Coach-Pitch action Friday night, beating home team Eden Boys & Girls Club 24-1 in Eden.
Reidsville's first eight batters all got hits, scoring seven runs without any outs made that ended the visting team's at bat. A highlight of the first inning for Reidsville was a homerun by Shawn Watlington, one of two for him for the night.
Eden B&G was only able to respond with two hits from Kiaris Scales and Cole Vernon but no runs scored.
In the second inning, Reidsville's first two batters hit into outs but the team "rallied on two" to get five runs in before their ab-bat ended. A single stretched into a double by B&G's Ian Fleming was the lone high spot for the Club as Fleming would later score his team's only run after a double by teammate Lavar Strange.
In the third inning, Reidsville scored five runs. B&G left two runners, Cole Garret and Kiaris Scales, stranded on base.
In the fourth and final inning, Reidsville's Jared Stadler would knock in the seventh run to end his team's at-bat. B&G's Tyson Broadnax attempt to stretch his hit into a homerun was foiled by Reidsville catcher Colby Johnson at the plate. B&G would be unable to secure any hits and the game ended in the fourth inning due to the slaughter rule.
